Albergue Monte Do Gozo

Good basic accomodation close to Ordesa Pyrenees. Helpful staff. Breakfast and packed lunch available. Old style building.

Location was great.

Good sleep. Loved the park and view. The location was perfect for walking into the cathedral early.

Room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was a nice bonus.

I’m not sure what the original function of this place was, but it seems like a series of single-story dormitories for a university or some such function. There is a reception area at one end and a restaurant/bar at the other end. They call the dormitory buildings ‘pavillions’. Within each pavilion there is no sound proofing, you hear every door opening and hallway conversation that takes place. There is also no wi-fi in any of the pavilions. The only wi-fi is at the reception area or the bar—both of which can be some distance from the pavilions. The place itself is 4.5 km from Santiago, which is not in itself a bad thing, but the bar/restaurant onsite is not always open and the menu is very limited. And there is nothing else in the area for food/drink. I think the management of the place might need a to review what hospitality means—or perhaps the strange lack of hospitality is the ambiance they are going for. That said, individual workers were great, which is why I think management needs an overhaul. We had a particularly indifferent greeting at reception, then the next morning as I was making my way through one dining room to get to the breakfast room some worker asks me aggressively, “where are you going?” My reply: “to the cafeteria…”. His response in Spanish—again aggressively—“speak to me, speak to me, speak to me…”. To which one of his co-workers stated, “ he is going to the cafeteria.” Anyway, all in all, it seems to be a strange place that is irritated by the fact that they have to host guests.
