What to say about Los Angeles, the City of Angels, commonly known as LA? First, you must know that this California city, with its population of more than 10 million inhabitants, is the second largest city in the United States. The main language is English and the currency is the U.S. dollar. The city has a pleasant climate throughout the year. In summer the average temperature is 24°C and in winter it is around 10°C. It rarely rains there, but rainfalls are usually violent. Despite the fact that the climate may seem ideal, Los Angeles is too often affected by smog in summer, which can cause respiratory problems in people who are sensitive to it.
Transportation
If you arrive in Los Angeles by air, it is important to note that the Airport (Los Angeles International Airport – LAX) is located about 20 km from downtown. You will need to take a taxi or rent a car to get to your hostel. Since Los Angeles is a very big city, it is impossible to visit it by foot. There is a subway system which can be useful but it is still underdeveloped (only 5 lines), and a network of buses which is fairly slow. Since the public transport system is not very effective, it is highly recommended that you rent a vehicle for the duration of your stay so you can move between your hotel and the various points of interest. Some hostels offer shuttle services, don’t hesitate to ask. For security issues, because unfortunately the City of Angels is not only inhabited by angels, do not leave anything in your rental car and do not go downtown after dusk.
